1955 - 1960

The Halifax Regional Library Board recommends a new library branch be built in the north end. Estimated cost at $150,00-200,00. A potential location, a building on the corner of Windsor and Almon, was rejected as unsuitable even if renovated. A number of additional reports and studies are compiled. The Library Board submits a report to Council in 1956 recommending that a site at the corner of Gottigen and Uniacke Streets be acquired to establish a branch library. A Redevelopment study of Halifax, Nova Scotia identifies proposals to build a library at the corner of Uniacke Street. In July 1960, the full interim report of the education subcommittee of the citizens’ planning committee of Halifax recommends a branch library in the north end.
